  4. Efficient, Affordable Energy for Buildings Campaign

The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) is carrying forward a package of reforms that present a risk to the existing regulatory drivers for CHP and district heating in the built environment. The “Red Tape Challenge” aims to remove local planning authority (LPA) powers to specify carbon saving measures on specific sites.

The ADE joined a coalition of organisations including the Micropower Council, ACE, REA, WWF, BEAMA and the Solar Trade Association to provide information to policy makers in order to help them fully understand the economic, environment and social impact of the DCLG proposals. The coalition is calling on Government to reduce householders’ bills, stimulate the economy and move away from fossil fuel reliance by:

  • keeping the Planning and Energy Act 2008;
  • maintaining the Code for Sustainable Homes; and
  • keeping 2016 as the implementation date for Zero Carbon Homes
