  1. Ofgem announces £17 billion new investment package and reduces pressure on customer bills

    Ofgem has today set out plans for five out of the six companies that run Britain’s local electricity network. This decision will see the companies spend around £17 billion to renew, maintain the electricity network and connect small-scale renewable generation. Taken together with Western Power Distribution which had its price controls agreed early, the total spend on Britain’s local electricity network over the next eight years will be £24 billion.

    International consultancy and construction company Mace has selected U.K.-based distributed power developer Clarke Energy to supply two Jenbacher J420 natural gas-fueled engines from GE’s Distributed Power business (NYSE: GE). The engines will provide environmentally friendlier, more sustainable power and heat for the first phase of the £380 million Nova, Victoria, redevelopment project, an area of London previously known as Victoria Circle.

  14. Moody's: New Capacity Market in Great Britain offers increased revenue stability for gas fired generation

    According to Moody's Investors Service, Great Britain's new Capacity Market could help to stabilise revenues for gas-fired power generation at a time when running hours have become increasingly uncertain, although the mechanism could be more exposed to political risk than existing renewable electricity support schemes. Overall Moody's considers the Capacity Market to be credit positive in the short term, but the extent of any lasting long term benefit is difficult to assess.
