  1. Heat 16 | From global agreement to local action - A summary of the day's events

    This year’s Heat Conference, attended by over 200 delegates, was set against a backdrop of great upheaval in the European political landscape. The Paris Agreement, forged last December, set a global ambition for controlling climate change, while the UK Government committed to a 57% reduction in carbon emissions by 2032 in its 5th Carbon Budget. The conference sought to understand how to change global agreement to local action and focused on what a local, devolved future would mean for the heat sector.   7. University of Liverpool Invest in Sustainable Energy Centre

    Installation works have commenced on site, as Vital Energi begin the installation of a new £1.5m Energy Centre, for the new Greenbank halls of residence at the University of Liverpool. Vital Energi have a longstanding relationship with the University of Liverpool and have previously installed the University’s district heating network and converted their Grade II former mortuary building into a CHP-powered energy centre.

    The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy has published updated formulae for the CHP Quality Assurance (CHPQA) Scheme. These changes modify the CHPQA Standard and Guidance Note 44 (GN44), which are necessary to incorporate the EU’s updated energy efficiency reference values.

  11. The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) Recoverable Heat Support Programme: Pre-consultation Workshop 6th December

    BEIS have been developing their thinking through a series of workshops and meetings associated with the Industrial 2050 Roadmaps project over the past year, and now have a clear structure for how they intend the Recoverable Heat Support Programme (RHSP) to work. BEIS are planning on launching a public consultation and call for evidence in early 2017, but before then would like to invite participants in a pre-consultation workshop to help test out their approach to the consultation. This workshop will be an important step in the shaping of the RHSP, and an opportunity to provide views before the scheme gets to formal consultation stage.

  12. Ofgem announces: "Upcoming consultation: Statutory consultation on informed choices principles"

    This statutory consultation follows on from Ofgem's recent ‘informed choices’ policy consultation. They are seeking views on introducing new principles into the supply licence in relation to tariff comparability. Ofgem will also be consulting on reforms to the rules on sales and marketing to make greater use of principles.

    Cogeneration specialist ENER-G has published a new Technical CHP Manual to assist specifiers in selecting, sizing and installing CHP systems. The manual offers in-depth technical guidance surrounding the physical parameters of cogeneration, emissions considerations and electrical and thermal outputs.
