Bristol City Council’s Energy Service is comprised of a number of different teams, each of which is focused on providing a quality service to the city.

Ensuring the city has a secure energy supply, is resilient to future changes, and actively reducing carbon emissions are some of the Service’s core objectives.

Our main project teams are:

  • Housing: Our Warm Up Bristol scheme is an initiative designed to make the private housing stock in Bristol more energy efficient to create cosier, healthier homes and reduce carbon emissions. We’re dedicated to tackling cold homes and reducing fuel poverty in the city and we’ve secured government funding to help us do this.
  • Investment: Our Investment team leads on renewable energy installations and community energy projects which help local people to invest in clean energy like solar power. We're also responsible for ensuring the council’s corporate buildings use less energy by introducing renewables and energy efficiency measures.
  • Infrastructure: This scheme focuses on projects which will improve Bristol’s energy security. We're working on installing heat and energy networks to supply more efficient and lower carbon heat and power to the city.
  • Community Energy: We manage the Bristol Community Energy Fund which delivers grant funding to community energy projects across the city. Community and equality-led groups can  access grant funding of up to £10,000 to support their projects in Bristol.
  • Environmental performance (EMAS): We look after the council’s overall environmental performance, ensuring that the council is legally compliant, prevents pollution, and continually improves its performance. This part of the service works both for the council and for external clients in the public and third sectors.
  • Energy supply: We buy gas, electricity, oil, and bio fuels for the council and other public sector bodies including schools.
