Controlling the costs of biomass units under the renewables obligation

17 January 2018

Today Government released the consultation response 'Controlling the costs of biomass conversion and co-firing units under the RO'.

Government placed a 'generator cap' on biomass units, both non CHP and CHP. The consultation response is available on BEIS website here.

This comes after a consultation (September 2017) that noted that significant unforecast deployment of biomass conversion and co-firing under the RO could lead to additional costs to consumers of around £110m to £195m per year.

Support rates for eligible generation will remain at current levels as set out by the RO Order 2015. The measures will come into force in 2018/19.
