Energy is a fast changing and complex topic, with many different voices seeking to be heard. Are you someone who can turn excellent and complex ideas into great content and engaging communications? Does your strong understanding of the political narrative allow you to create compelling engagement strategies? If so, we want to hear from you.
The ADE’s vision is for a cost-effective, efficient, low-carbon, user-led energy system; a market in which our members can flourish. We need an effective communicator to broaden our reach and help us show how decentralised energy, led by customers and energy users, can deliver a lower cost and lower carbon energy system.
Who are we?
The Association for Decentralised Energy is the UK’s leading advocate for a more local, zero carbon energy system, where households and businesses can truly feel empowered.
The ADE is an exciting and dynamic place to work, engaging with Government and other decision makers at the forefront of energy policy and helping to shape the future energy market. The Association has a growing membership, with more than 150 organisations representing a wide range of energy market participants working in heat networks and low carbon heat, demand-side response, energy efficiency and combined heat and power.
With public and private investment into the sector, a renewed focus on green jobs, and a market-wide shift towards decentralised generation, smart energy services and customer-led innovation, this role is a key opportunity for the right person.
Who are you?
You are likely to be a creative, enthusiastic, proactive communicator who can raise the profile of the Association and our members to help make us the leading voice in the energy sector, developing and delivering our communications strategy across print, broadcast and social media and through our redesigned website, graphic-led reports, and engaging events. You are bold and ambitious, with an eye for strategy and a keenness to get involved with leading the organisation into the future. You will mix bold creativity with practical delivery of fundamentals, to great impact.
The Head of External Affairs’ responsibilities will include continuing to develop and deliver a communications and public affairs strategy; working across the organisation to develop key messages; communicating these messages to external and internal audiences; establishing relationships with members of the media and key stakeholders; and overseeing the production of related materials. This role will be a lynchpin in managing and funnelling the Association’s expertise out into the wider world.
The role will also be responsible for enhancing and promoting the organisation’s online presence, overseeing the production of external materials such as brochures, press releases, web copy, newsletters and executive presentations, and member communications.
The Head of External Affairs will line-manage the Association’s Communications and Press Officer, and will manage the ADE’s relationship with our Public Affairs contacts.
We are looking for an individual who has a passion for and - preferably - experience in efficient, low-carbon, local energy. Someone who can shape and drive the Association’s communications and Parliamentary engagement activities so that our reach and recognition are enhanced.
The ideal candidate will combine experience in external affairs with a network of contacts throughout parliament and industry, and the ability to engage with and understand the complex policy areas in which we work.
Working in a small team is an excellent opportunity to raise your profile and gain leadership responsibilities in one of the most exciting and growing areas of the energy sector. We are looking for someone to join our passionate team in delivering policy that helps create a better energy system.
At the ADE we believe that we only succeed if we have happy motivated people, and we will support and invest in a successful candidate. In exchange we look for proactive team players who are ready to deliver on behalf of our members.
