BEIS anounnce Ministerial Responsibilities

On Thursday 15 August, the Ministerial roles for the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) were announced and confirmed.

The Rt Hon Kwasi Kwarteng MP

The Rt Hon Kwasi Kwarteng MP was announced as the Minster of State for Business, Energy and Clean Growth on 24 July 2019. The position was previously held by The Rt Hon Claire Perry MP. 

His responsibilities will include: 

  • carbon budgets
  • green finance
  • energy efficiency and heat, including fuel poverty
  • low carbon generation
  • energy retail markets
  • oil ang gas, including shale gas
  • security of supply
  • electricity and gas wholesale markets and networks
  • international energy
  • EU energy and climate
  • energy security, including resilience and emergency planning

Nadhim Zahawi MP

Nadhim Zahawi MP, was appointed to the position of Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Minister for Business and Industry) on 26 July 2019. 

His responsibilities will include:

  • Industrial Strategy delivery
  • Sector Deals
  • sectoral lead:
    • advanced manufacturing
    • aerospace
    • automotive
    • materials (including steel)
    • life sciences
    • professional services
    • nuclear
    • infrastructure and construction
    • rail supply chain
    • defence
    • maritime
  • supply chains
  • national security and investment
  • local growth
  • better regulation and regulatory reform

The Lord Duncan of Springbank

The Lord Duncan of Springbank was appointed to the position Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Minister for Climate Change) on July 26.

His responsibilities will include:

  • Lords lead on all BEIS issues
  • EU single market on-going business
  • EU Structural Funds
  • Land Registry
  • Ordnance Survey
  • international climate change (including International Climate Fund)
  • climate science and innovation
  • clean heat
  • smart meters and smart systems
  • BEIS Devolution Champion
