The Electricity System Operator has published their Forward Plan

Today, National Grid have published the final version of its 2018-19 Forward Plan. The Forward Plan sets out our longer term ambition for the ESO and what it will deliver during 2018-19 to create additional value for consumers.

Throughout the consultation process, they received a large volume of feedback and are grateful for the input from stakeholders. In response to the feedback received the System Operator will be reprioritising activities.  This is reflected in the heightened level of ambition across a number of areas including:

  • the transparency of balancing services procurement decisions,
  • code administration performance, and
  • approach to stakeholder engagement. 

As part of the continuing work, the SO have also begun to develop a methodology for estimating the consumer value of their actions, and will be engaging Ofgem and stakeholders in the coming months to develop this methodology.

In an effort to increase transparency, the System Operator has announced it will publish regular performance updates from May, as part of the new reporting and monitoring framework. These will be published on National Grid's website
