ADE response to Labour’s plans for achieving 60% renewable and low carbon energy in the UK by 2030

26 September 2018

In response to the Labour Party’s plans to reduce net carbon emissions by 60% by 2030 and zero by 2050, the Association for Decentralised Energy (ADE) Director Dr Tim Rotheray commented:

The ADE welcomes Labour’s commitment to a zero carbon future and its recognition that this will only be possible through a ‘diverse energy mix’ that supports the decarbonisation of heat.

The ambitious target to meet 60 per cent of our heating needs through low carbon generation sources, such as heat networks, is particularly welcome.

It is reassuring to see an understanding that moving to low carbon heat generation alone won’t be enough, and that supporting energy efficiency measures to ensure warm homes is an essential piece of the heat decarbonisation puzzle.
