E.ON - Citigen London
Utility Combined Heat and Power Heat Networks Heat Pumps Thermal Energy Storage

E.ON - Citigen London

Deep beneath Farringdon, yards from Smithfield Market, E.ON’s Citigen plant powers the City of London. Hidden across eight floors, this one-of-a-kind combined heat and power plant sends heating and cooling through 11km of pipes to homes and businesses from Guildhall to the Barbican. It supports 480,000 daily commuters and exports enough electricity for 11,300 homes.

Citigen also has a 4MW heat pump - one of the UK’s largest low-carbon heating and cooling systems - drawing natural warmth from the London Aquifer 200m below ground and recycling waste heat that would otherwise be lost. The heat pump is delivering a 30% cut in carbon emissions, zero-carbon heat for 2,300 more homes and businesses, and extra cooling for the Square Mile.
