Rendesco - Welborne Garden Village

Welborne Garden Village in Hampshire is the UK’s largest water-source heating and cooling network. This pioneering system serves 15,000 residents across 6,000 new homes, plus commercial and community buildings. By drawing stable-temperature water from Portsmouth Water’s underground reservoir, it cuts CO2 emissions by 90% compared to gas boilers and 50% compared to air source heat pumps. The average resident saves around £160 annually. The network also provides summer cooling and transfers excess heat between buildings.

The complete network will save over 272,000 tonnes of carbon in the first 25 years of operation, compared with gas boilers, which is equal to the emissions of more than 33,000 average homes.
